2007 Arroyo Grande Creek Vegetation Management

The passage of the 2006 Proposition 218 ballot measure by Zone 1/1A landowners significantly increased the flood control district budget for channel maintenance.  Selective vegetation thinning in the flood control channel was one of the high priority work items for 2007.  Reducing the density of willows in the channel, while protecting the wildlife habitat offered by the creek, involved implementing a program of selective pruning and willow removal.  Permits required to perform this work included:  Streambed Alteration Agreement (California Department of Fish and Game), Coastal Development Permit Waiver (California Coastal Commission), and a County permit waiver for work in the coastal zone.
